‘THANK YOU’ – AND WHY WE SHOULD SAY THOSE TWO WORDS MORE OFTEN IN BUSINESS

Today was a day, like a real day. You know, one of those days where you think… What..? Eh…? Did that just happen…? Really…? To me…?

Before I panic you, it was a GOOD day!

It was simply a day where people said thank you to me. Nothing more normal than that you’re thinking, why would that make it a day which stands out so much?

Well… the thank yous were all said in public and all at once and the groundswell of emotion it created in me was unbelievable.

Many of you will know that 2015 has been a topsy turvy year for Custard and Bear, one of the most rollercoaster ones of the past four years. But it’s also been full of so much amazing stuff, most importantly, the launch of #MarketingForMummies which I’m so incredibly proud of. Not only am I proud of me for having the faith to develop it and launch it, I’m even more proud of each of the businesses who took part and took complete charge of the marketing, got their shit done and created some amazing results.

They did that.

Not me.

I was just the catalyst, the championer of ideas, the one giving the nudges of encouragement.

They did it. Themselves.

Each one of them amazed me, all in different ways, but each and every graduate of #MarketingForMummies taught me something new about marketing.

Like many people in my field I don’t run my business for the adulation or the praise; I love a thank you as much as the next person, but my satisfaction comes from seeing my clients doing well and developing confidence in their marketing.

So to get a flurry, nope scratch that, a downpour of testimonials in the space of a few hours blew me away and left me in a flood of happy tears. It made me truly realise that there is a purpose in what I do and that what I do is valuable and needed and genuinely appreciated.

This image from my Facebook Page sums it up…
And then, because I’m me, I then had to say thank you for the thank yous!

I'm a big believer in 'credit where credit's due' but erm... when people give me that credit I get a bit blushy and all...

These words might not seem like much, but to me it meant to the world. To me it meant that my topsy turvy 2015 was a success.

Each genuine, heart felt word filled me with happiness.

Two simple words: Thank You. Wow, they hold so much power.

So what’s the marketing lesson here?

There’s so many!

  • Remember your manners
  • Say thank you
  • Don’t underestimate the power of small actions…..

And crucially, what you put out there WILL come back to you.

If you’re dedicated to being persistent and consistent in both your marketing messages AND the way you treat people then the marketing seeds you sow WILL flower for you.
